An extensive 60-day journey circling the Land Down Under is being halted following the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the tropical location with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the party for a break. The liner left without her and returned several hours later after the ship staff became aware the lady was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission found her body the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are examining the tragedy, together with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the voyage organizer announced that travelers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the continuation of the cruise had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous engine troubles".

In a statement, he mentioned that travelers would be provided a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the homeward trips of the individuals via chartered flights".

Officials also issued an revised statement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Master" banning any new passengers from getting on the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would inspect the vessel in the port city upon its return.

The ship initially left Cairns on October 24th, and was merely two days into the voyage at the time of the 80-year-old's demise. Lizard Island was the first stop on the voyage.

Passengers on board - who typically pay large sums of money to participate in the cruise - were ferried there for a day trip with the choice of hiking or underwater exploration.

Relatives Reaction

The daughter of the victim said that her relatives was "surprised and distressed that the vessel left the island after an planned excursion without my mum".

Through her comments, she portrayed her parent as an "energetic octogenarian" who was a member of a bushwalking club.

"Based on limited information we have been informed, it seems that there was a lapse of responsibility and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She further stated that she wished the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the organization should have performed that might have preserved Her existence".

"According to reports from the police that it was a exceptionally warm period, and mum took sick on the mountain ascent," she revealed.

"Officials suggested her to head down, unescorted. Then the ship departed, apparently without performing a roll call.
